Jane Goodall
Renowned primatologist, who has discovered a number of amazing facts about chimpanzees by her long (35 years) and patient observations of wild chimpanzees's behavior in Gombe, Tanzania: cannibalism, use of tools, wars, alliance or coalition, stepchild, propagation of the use of tools, immigration, etc., etc. Her monumental book The Chimpanzees of Gombe--Patterns of Behavior (1986) shed much light on the origins of humans as well as of our hairy siblings. And she has been very active for saving or alleviating the sufferings of chimpanzees all over the world. She was awarded a Kyoto Prize in 1990. She is now working, through her Institute, for saving chimpanzees and for other causes.
